Contact Lists allow you to group users together under a common group name. You can then
assign the Contact List to content on the site, restricting the content to be only viewable
to the users assigned to the Contact List. See Control Who Can View Your Content
for more information on protecting your site content.
The purpose behind contact lists is to easily allow you to add or remove someone from viewing content.
If you add a new user to a contact list, all content that the contact list is assigned to is now viewable
to the user. This relieves you of the burden of having to go through all of your content and individually
add the new user to each item. The reverse logic applies to removing someone from a list. If you remove
a user from a contact list, the user is no longer able to view any of the content that the contact list
was applied to.
For example, you could make a Contact List called, "Jokers", and assign users who enjoy a good joke to
the list. Afterwards, you could assign your "Jokers" list to a message board dedicated to telling jokes.
Only those users in your "Jokers" Contact List will be able to see the message board.
